Two men wearing Hallowen masks have been arrested for robbery in Franklin County

Kenneth West, Carols Gomez

Our news partner WAFF states,

The Cedar Creek Chevron was robbed around 8 p.m. Monday. Investigators said two men robbed the clerk at gunpoint while wearing Halloween masks. An undetermined amount of money was taken.

Law enforcement agencies in the surrounding area were notified and given the description of the robbers’ vehicle that the clerk was able to provide. A Phil Campbell police officer spotted the vehicle and began pursuit.

During the pursuit, the suspects threw items from the car before wrecking it. Among the items thrown were Halloween masks fitting descriptions of those used in the robbery.

Kenneth West and Carlos Gomez were taken to a Russellville emergency room. Once released, they were taken into custody and taken to the Franklin County Jail.

State Going Easier on Meth Offenses

Our partner WAFF says the state has passed new guidelines that will put more junkies on the streets, and stuff even more inmates into already overflowing county jails.

It is a case Chris Able feels some jail time should be served, but because the offender currently has no prior offenses, the mathematical formula used for sentencing guidelines shows he is not eligible. The assistant DA said the judge does have some discretion.

“It is, I think, meant to try to reduce the prison population but in essence, it’s going to cause more of a backlog in the county jails and work-release facilities,” said Able.
